Abstract

Death during childbirth is usually the main factor in the death of young women at the peak of their productivity. Prenatal classes are a means of learning about health for pregnant women in the form of face-to-face in a group. The aim is to improve the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of mothers and families regarding pregnancy, prenatal care, childbirth, postpartum care, illnesses or complications during pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum, and newborn care. The participation of pregnant women and their families in prenatal classes is expected to increase knowledge and change the behavior of pregnant women and their families. The approach method used in this study is an empirical juridical/sociological (social-legal approach). The juridical aspect includes legal principles, rules or legal norms, and regulations regarding the implementation of prenatal classes as an effort to reduce maternal mortality. The data analysis method used is a qualitative analysis method. Qualitative analysis was used to determine the implementation of prenatal classes as an effort to reduce maternal mortality, in accordance with Minister of Health Regulation No. 97 of 2014. It also examined the barriers to their implementation and how to overcome them.
